About Ventura
Located an hour North of Los Angeles, Ventura was established in 1782
when the Mission San Buenaventura was built. Though explorer Gaspar de
Portola passed through 13 years earlier, the region grew only after Father
Junipero Serra decided to break ground and build one final mission in
his chain of 21 stretching along the California Coast. Adobe houses sprang
up around the mission in the early 1800s and by the time a railroad system
arrived in 1887, word was already out about this garden spot near the
coast. The city's name was shortened from Buenaventura to Ventura as the
town grew into a cultural center for nearby farm enterprises and growing
oil businesses. Many of the historic buildings in Ventura provide insight
into an earlier time. The city is full of charm which often disappears
from beach communities eager to tear down the old.

Directions: Take the I-405 NORTH to the US-101/VENTURA FREEWAY. Take the 101 NORTH/VENTURA exit. In Ventura, take the MAIN STREET exit. Keep RIGHT at the fork in the ramp. Merge onto EAST MAIN STREET. Turn RIGHT at the signal onto MILLS ROAD. Follow Mills Road until it ends at LOMA VISTA, and TURN LEFT. Continue to the second signal and TURN LEFT (BRENT STREET). The Prostate Institute and Parking Structure are in the medical office building to your left and the hospital is on your right. |
